Ando Insurance Group Limited (Ando) recently announced its adoption of the Fareshare initiative, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and the wellbeing of New Zealanders. Adoption of the initiative means that Ando subsidises Auckland Public Transport bus, train, and ferry services by 25% for employees with a registered AT HOP card.
Ando CEO John Lyon stated, “We are proud to be an early adopter of the Fareshare initiative. This step aligns with our broader sustainability approach and our purpose to positively impact the wellbeing of New Zealanders. Since 2021, we have been actively measuring and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. Fareshare is our latest effort to remove barriers to sustainable commuting choices for our employees.”
The initiative, launched publicly by Auckland Transport a few months ago, has already seen significant engagement at Ando, with over 100 staff members signing up in the first week. Ando aims to see at least a 10% increase in the use of public transport for commuting and an overall improvement in commuting wellbeing. Initial surveys indicated that public transport commutes had a higher wellbeing rating compared to commutes via car.
Lyon added, “We hope to see other New Zealand businesses join us in promoting sustainable behaviours. The feedback from our staff has been overwhelmingly positive, appreciating the subsidy, the ease of the sign-up process and the knowledge that they are doing something tangible for the environment by choosing to take public transport.”
By investing in initiatives like Fareshare, Ando continues to lead by example in the New Zealand insurance and sustainable business communities, encouraging a shift towards more responsible and environmentally mindful practices.
